Green Spaces refers to outdoor recreational areas for people and wildlife, such as Parks, flower beds, hanging baskets and planters, nature reserves, woodlands, urban greenways and underdeveloped landscapes, public rights of way and footpaths, cemeteries and crematoria, allotments and city farms, recreation grounds and playing fields.
The Leeds Parks and Green Spaces Forum is a voluntary organisation made up of individuals, groups and organisations interested in enhancing the green spaces of Leeds.
Who we are
- Members include ‘Friends of’ groups, Residents’ associations, In Bloom groups, Environmental charities and LCC Parks and Countryside

Our Aims
- To work with Members and other relevant organisations to protect, preserve and enhance the parks, green spaces and other green infrastructure of Leeds for the benefit of people and wildlife.
- To facilitate regular communication, skill sharing and partnership working between Leeds City Council and Forum members.
- To act as a consultation body for decisions being made that affect green spaces (existing or potential) in Leeds.
- To influence policy for the benefit of parks and green spaces in Leeds.
- To advocate the value of parks and green spaces to decision makers and the general public.
- To engage and support voluntary groups that care for green spaces in Leeds.
- To seek out funding opportunities and convey those to Members.
- To represent the interests of parks and green spaces and lobby for these to decision makers, including Leeds City Council, other public sector bodies and the private sector as relevant.
Current priorities
- Facilitating the introduction of Food-growing in parks and green spaces where appropriate, partnering with Feed Leeds and the Incredible Edible movement.
- Bringing Forum records up to date to enable us to recruit more members, especially from Community parks.
- Promoting the benefits of public green space for health and well-being, including for clean air.
- Mitigating against aspects of climate change by supporting and encouraging tree planting across Leeds, including maintenance and protection.
- Mitigating against aspects of climate change by enhancing biodiversity, and promoting the importance of creating, maintaining, and enhancing green corridors.
